Reactive Surface

Every implant put into the human body causes an inflammatory foreign-body-reaction which takes place on the outer surface of the implant. In case of mesh implants the reaction takes place all over the surface of the thread being processed within the mesh.

Thus, a reduction of inflammatory reaction will be reached by decreasing the thread surface. Main challenge for textile engineering now is to design a mesh providing smallest possible thread surface with simultaneous consideration of required mesh stability, elasticity and suture pull out strength.

With DynaMesh-PP Light a mesh was created exactly meeting these requirements. The reactive thread surface within a mesh of 1 m² of size was reduced to 1.11 m². Based on this ratio of 1 : 1.11, a DynaMesh-PP Light e.g. size 15cm x 15cm has a reactive surface of only 249.75 cm².

For comparison: A non-porous membrane, size 1 m², has a reactive surface of 2 m². According to this ratio of 1:2, a non-porous membrane, size 15cm x 15cm exhibits a reactive surface of 450 cm².

Even more surface, up to a ratio of 1 : 2.83, is contained in the conventional small pore and heavy weight meshes.
